A Week Without Music

Imagine you’re about to fall asleep, all snug, content, listening to Adele, and BOOM! It sounds like a field of cats fighting for the last can of tuna in your left ear.
If you see me I always have headphones in. Falling asleep, waking up, cleaning, staring off into the distance imagining what its like to be my dog. I am always listening to music, an audiobook, or a podcast.
A week without headphoned wasn't ideal, It ended up being really eye-opening though.
having very in-depth conversations with yourself- I solved a lot of anxiety I had pent up over the last 2 months with traveling for the holidays and applying/getting exerted into the Praxis Program. I didn’t realize how much I needed to “meditate”.
realizing I live so far out in the country that coyotes are a thing here-I woke up the other night to a pack of coyotes barking or screaming the other night and texted my brother from the other room. He said it happens all the time. I promptly disagreed and his reply was “you probably had your headphones in when we all were talking about it 2 weeks ago.”
accepting the fact that I'm missing out- For a long time, I have made a combination of excuse for not being entirely engaged. "This podcast is educational" or "Listening to an audiobook is better than book club". as easy as it is to multitask when I can listen to a book, It's not as fun as missing whats going on around me.
All the headphones I own only last about 3-6 months if that. My family was visiting all week so I didn’t have the time or energy to go get another pair. The things I took from it were actually interesting.
