Contrary to popular belief, Florida is freezing in winter! As of right now, the humidity where I live is 75% and the temperature is 33 degrees. Here's a few thing's about Florida's weather that's taken me by surprise.

The Rain

Along with the sudden realization that it get’s super cold in winter, I was also shocked that it rains pretty much everyday in the summer. I swear, everyday at 4pm the sky would go from a delightful blue to a disappointing grey. It wouldn’t just rain, the sky would turn into a waterfall of torrential down-poor for thirty to forty minutes. And then the rain would end, the sky would clear, and the only evidence of it happening was the puddles on the sidewalk and the smell of wet pavement.

The Humidity

I was prepared for humidity because I have lived in Washington State, but no amount of time in Washington could have prepared me for the weather down here. The best way to describe the constant discomfort of the humidity that is Florida’s summer, is by asking someone to imagine drying off after a shower and standing in the steam of the bathroom. You’ve been warned, but nothing will prepare you.

Hurricane Irma Was A First

I had to evacuate FL because of Irma a few months ago. I went to the store to buy food, water, and any other supplies my family and I might need for the car ride. As the Walmart doors opened I saw the empty shelves, People running rampant, and a baby actually crying. It looked like a scene from the movie “2012”. They’re were cops standing in the middle of the road directing cars into gas stations and half them didn't even have any gasoline! I now know that I need to be prepared for the end of the world because just a state evacuation was insane.

As much as I love the beaches and how warm it is at 11pm, Florida is nothing like anywhere I have ever lived. I would love to here anyone else’s overdramatic “culture shock” statements about the states they’ve either, moved to or visited!
