I kept my promise to myself to work out today! I feel great and don't think I pushed myself too hard, but I am still going to be sore tomorrow, which is awesome! I have been an athlete my whole life and have just recently started to work out at home to build muscle.
When I was in swimming I would be very careful to not eat something that would be too filling and make me throw up while working out, but at the same time give me enough energy for over two hours. So here are my favorite foods to eat pre-workout that feed your muscles and give you plenty of energy!
1. Bananas
You really can't go wrong with a few bananas as your pre-workout meal, unless you're allergic. Bananas are a great source of sugar for energy, they have a great amount of potassium, and they have carbohydrates! An all-around great snack in my opinion.
2. Cliff Bar
Honestly, I love how easy Cliff Bars are to throw in your bag even when your not working out. They are obviously full of protein and one is just enough for you to feel full. I don't have to go into full detail on them, they're amazing.
3. Eggs
You can have an omelet, a frittata, or just plain sunny side up! Eggs are so good for you to eat because they are full of protein and amino acids. If you're looking to build muscle like I am I would eat eggs before you work out.
4. Smoothie
Whole fruit smoothies are full of sugars that your body can easily digest and use for energy. I prefer to drink a smoothie rather than bananas if I know my workout is going to run more than two and a half hours because it keeps me energized and full. I love smoothies because they're hard to mess up and you can make all different variations.
5. High protein oatmeal and fruit
This is my everyday pre-workout meal because you can buy such a large amount and have a long shelf life. If you're too busy to make aesthetically pleasing meal prepped food but still want to feel like your eating something great then this is the way to go. I throw bananas, blueberries, goji berries, or strawberries on top of my oatmeal and it tastes amazing.
Those were my favorite and easy foods to eat before you work out! of course, everyone's food preferences are different but I think these are foods that almost anyone would love. If your into working out feel free to leave you're favorite pre or post workout food in the comments below.
